Perfectly
situated near Cortona, the town revealed to travelers around the world through
the wonderful best selling books of Frances Mayes and the hit film that
followed “Under The Tuscan Sun”’, there lays an ancient three story building
constructed over three hundred years ago. The building originally served as the
main structure of a farm that was managed for a local aristocrat that owned
most lands of San Lorenzo and additional lands between Cortona and Trasimeno Lake situated
ten kilometers from it.
A
few years ago the building and the adjacent lands were purchased by two
brothers with architectural and construction background. The two saw the
potential and through a long and detailed process renovated the structure to an
upscale apartment hotel while keeping the essence of its Tuscan heritage. The
apartment hotel includes nine separate apartments varying in sizes from one to
four rooms. Each
apartment includes a kitchen and authentic Tuscan furniture.
In
the adjacent land around the apartment hotel a swimming pool was constructed
and a 50 olive tree orchard was planted as well as wide grasses and flowers
common to the Tuscan area. The landscape architect retained by the owners
planted a special garden that provides visitors with intoxicating smells that
merge with the scenic town of Cortona that lies on the mountain across the
apartment hotel.
Each
upscale apartment includes all modern day conveniences including large beds,
orthopaedic mattresses, air-conditioning and heating, equipped kitchens in
ancient Tuscan style, internet and satellite television. The hotel also
includes a management office and an art
gallery featuring Tuscan style oil paintings of international artists. The
hotel provides its guests with daily trip plans, recommendations to the great
hideaway restaurants of Tuscany and insider tips to make each vacation
a truly great one.
The
hotel also offers its guests either mountain or dirt bicycle riding with instruction from certified instructors of the
Umbria Bicycle Association. The area includes special paths of 80 KM around Trasimeno Lake as
well as mountain riding on asphalt roads in the Hannibal path nearby where he fought the
Romans. The path crosses nearby between hills and forests and is named for the
battle that took place some 2200 years ago.
For
those who prefer leisure cooking courses
are offered to either small or large groups. The courses are led by
professional chefs that teach the secrets to authentic Tuscan cooking. Each
course begins with a visit to the local farmer’s market where fresh products
are purchased, from there you head to the hotel to cook and later enjoy the
wonderful dishes and meals prepared. The courses are fun filled and must be
registered in advance when booking your hotel reservation.
Recently
the hotel offered group painting courses
for beginners. The courses were led by an international artist with specialty
in instruction to physically challenged individuals. Some of the participants
who never painted before were surprised to learn that each person, no matter
how inexperienced he or she is, was able to produce impressive art paintings.
Packagetours to groups in luxurious buses or day trips with personal drivers are alsoavailable through the hotel upon request of travel agents or group touroperators around the world. The hotel can accommodate groups of up to 30persons for leisure and fun activities including visits to museums, cities, monasteries and other hard to find hideaway places that tourists can rarelyfind without guidance of locals.
Due
to the perfect location of the
apartment hotel “La Mucchia CasaVacanza” one is able to easily access the cities of Tuscany and Umbria with a drive of only 30 to 60 minutes
allowing most of the day for site seeing and touring instead of spending time
driving.
